The Story of Captain Mat

Kapten Mat started in 2020 – not as a company from scratch but as a simple idea by the beach.

A griddle, some good food and a camera. What started as just a hobby grew out of my desire to cook outdoors and share the moments with others. There wasn't really a grand plan from the start – just the joy of cooking real food over an open flame.

At the age of 50, I took the plunge and started as a YouTuber. It may not have been the most common path to take, but I wanted to try something new and follow my passion for outdoor cooking.

The films were simple in the beginning, shot outdoors, often down by the water where it all started. The food, the environment and the community were at the center – and that is still the foundation of everything I do.

Gradually the channel grew and became one of Sweden's largest YouTube channels in outdoor cooking. The experience from all the hours spent at the grill made me finally develop my own frying pan, developed based on the needs I have seen myself during many years of cooking.

Around this also grew my webshop front, where I sell frying pans and accessories that I use myself and find work really well in practice.

Over time, the business has also grown into more than just films. Gourmet weekends on Visingsö, corporate events and cooking classes around Sweden are today an important part of Kapten Mat. There I get to meet people who share the same interest in food and experiences – something I appreciate very much.

Despite everything that has happened since the beginning, the foundation is the same as in 2020:
